Reach Out and Read-Alabama begins another decade of building better brains, with a successful Grand Pediatric Pentathlon at the 2017 Spring Meeting, which raised a net of more than $12,500, exceeding the goal and bringing the net total raised through this fun, family event over the last four years to over $42,000!
With 100 physicians and exhibitors from across the state attending the Alabama Chapter’s Spring Meeting in May, half of those participated in this year’s Grand Pediatric Pentathlon. The Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort once again provided a perfect venue for all of the events--a one-mile walk/run, 30 minutes of biking, 30 minutes of kayaking, one hour of swimming and an hour of reading for fun. Participants were seen all over the resort sporting the bright blue signature Pentathlon shirts as they tackled the activities with their colleagues. For each event they completed, participants were entered in drawings for prizes including a Regions Bank green cruiser bicycle, a kayak, an Apple Watch, a YETI cooler, an autographed Alabama football and many others.
2018 marks the fifth year of the Grand Pediatric Pentathlon when we return to where it all began, Grand Hotel Point Clear Resort & Spa. We have some exciting new additions to the event to celebrate this milestone, including a new chair, Nola Ernest, MD, FAAP.
Stay tuned for more information later this summer!
