West Alabama Pediatrics celebrates the first day of summer with a prescription for reading

West Alabama Pediatrics joined other Reach Out and Read-Alabama pediatric practices and clinics across the state in celebrating11 years of stories this summer with the eighth annual Rx for Summer Reading campaign that promotes families reading together.

Along with fun summer-themed activities, copies of the book Sometimes I Feel Sunny by Gillian Shields was given to the children in attendance through the partnership with Alabama Department of Rehab Services and Early Intervention.

Families also received a written prescription to become involved in the summer reading program, “Build a Better World,” at their local library.

Community partners including Tuscaloosa County Sherriff’s Department, Northport Fire Department and Sparky the Dog, Northport Chick-Fil-A and the Chick-Fil-A Cow, University of Alabama mascot Big Al, TCBY Northport, and Help Me Grow-Alabama participated in the event.
