It all began with an idea.

Initially conceived by Alabama Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics member Grant Allen, MD, FAAP, the Grand Pediatric Pentathlon has grown to be ROR-AL's signature fundraising event at the Alabama Chapter-AAP's Spring Meeting.

Since 2014, the event has raised $150,000 for the program sites across the state, so that our pediatric healthcare providers can ensure children and families have access to age-appropriate, high-quality books to foster an early engagement with words and intellectual exploration. Our goal is to give each family a book at every well-child visit - a total of 100,000 books each year - and the Grand Pediatric Pentathlon has played an integral part!

Taking place at the Lodge at Gulf State Park, the event aims to raise $20,000 during the Alabama Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics Spring Meeting. The Chapter’s Spring Meeting is an annual regional event that draws more than 100 Alabama physicians and their families as well as 50 exhibitors from across the state and Gulf Coast. During the Pentathlon, participants (attendees, family members and vendors) will have the opportunity to register and compete in five different events (kayaking, walking/running, bicycling, swimming, and reading) available at The Lodge at Gulf State Park.
