Another successful Grand Pediatric Pentathlon raises $22,000
Initially conceived by Alabama Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics member Grant Allen, MD, FAAP, the Grand Pediatric Pentathlon has grown to be Reach Out and Read-Alabama’s signature fundraising event at the Alabama Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics' Spring Meeting.
Set against the beautiful Gulf Coast and The Lodge at Gulf State Park, the 13th annual Grand Pediatric Pentathlon created the perfect environment for 43 participants to engage in various activities, including walking/running, swimming, biking, kayaking, and reading—all in support of the program.
On Friday afternoon, many participants had a delightful time crafting sea turtles with Sandcastle University, sponsored by Ilona Overmann.
The top 3 winners of the Fun Run, sponsored by so.med, received gift cards.
Before the Fun Run, attendees joined the Children’s Trust Fund for a Pinwheel Planting on the Beach, placing pinwheels along the shore to raise awareness and celebrate the importance of prevention, early literacy, and healthy childhood development.
The excitement carried through to Saturday with a variety of activities, culminating in a vibrant mixer featuring a 360-photo booth, sponsored by River Bank and Trust, and exciting prizes for those who participated in “fun”draising for the program.
